Raising Cane Rodeo

 

Welcome to the Sugar Festival Raising Cane Rodeo, brought to you by the Seminole Tribe of Florida Along with a host of other sponsors.

 

     The Sugar Festival in Clewiston, Florida is a celebration of the end of the sugarcane harvest.  United States Sugar Corporation started the tradition back in the 1930s as a means of thanking its employees, vendors, and community for a successful harvest. The Sugar Festival like so many aspects of Clewiston would not have been possible for all of these years if not for US Sugar and their continued support of this event.  Over the years local businesses and merchants developed the idea of continuing the celebration as a way of showcasing our community and showing appreciation to the sugar industry that provides our economic livelihood.

 

     The Sugar Festival has grown into a weekend event that is highlighted by a free concert in the park.  Past entertainers include Sugarland, Heidi Newfield, and John Anderson.   The free concert is without a doubt the biggest draw of the day but not the only hit of the Sugar Festival.  The streets of downtown are lined with booths and vendors which have just about anything you could want to find or consume on a beautiful South Florida weekend.  The historic Clewiston Inn is located at the heart of the festival and provides a quiet refuge and cool area to catch your breath and meet up with family and friends.

 

     After a relaxing day in the park the excitement begins! The Sugar Festival Raising Cane Rodeo and Dance gets under way. In 2010 the Sugar Festival Committee decided to bring the Rodeo home and in following with the free entertainment concept – the rodeo was free as well.

 

  The Hendry County Fair and Livestock Show Arena is the site of the Raising Cane Rodeo and Dance.  The Rodeo will be held less than a three minute drive from the city park for two days in 2011; Friday is the youth only events and Saturday marks the day of the ranch teams competing to earn the title of Rasing Cane Champions. 

 

  

 

      The Sugar Festival is Clewiston’s spring homecoming event.   Family, friends, and neighbors gather in America’s Sweetest Town for good times, great food, and first class entertainment.  Come join us April 29^thand April 30^th for a Rodeo you will not soon forget.
